Moving Towards a Safer and Cleaner Community: Operation Clean Streets

With Operation Clean Streets sweeping through each zone of Sunland Park, we would like to provide some insight into the importance of this initiative to our community. Initially brought to attention by Sunland Park residents, this project emerged from the frustration caused by the ongoing and excessive number of abandoned and inoperable vehicles parked on Sunland Park streets.

Abandoned vehicles create several problems for the community. They can create significant safety risks by blocking sightlines, creating fire hazards, and attracting criminal activity. They can also reduce property values and lower the overall appeal of neighborhoods. In order to address these concerns, Operation Clean Streets was created to remove abandoned and inoperable vehicles parked on the street. This way, the city can eliminate the safety hazards posed by these vehicles while helping to restore the sense of respect and pride that comes with a clean neighborhood.

Community members can expect Operation Clean Streets to take place not just once, but multiple times throughout the year. Through this ongoing effort, our goal is to ensure that our streets remain clean. As the city continues to build positive momentum in this campaign, we encourage residents to keep sharing their concerns so we can continue making new improvements. Initiatives like this are designed to improve quality of life, and we welcome continued feedback on how we can better serve the community.

For residents that do not have the ability to move their tagged vehicles themselves, please reach out to us. If you have a disability or any other complication, we are here to connect you with the proper resources needed to avoid the tow. Do note that the 11th day is a strict deadline and will be a point beyond preventative action, so please reach out before the posted tow date.

Operation Clean Streets is intended to be a way for the city and its people to work together to clean up our neighborhoods. We encourage residents to call and communicate with us so that we can support and point residents towards the resources they need. We also encourage residents to let us know of abandoned vehicles on the street that they would like to report. Please call Sunland Park Codes Department at (575) 288-6075 or the Community Development Department at (575) 589-3631 and check below for more information regarding Operation Clean Streets.
