SUNLAND PARK, NM – In a continuing effort to foster transparent, one-on-one dialogue with its residents, the City of Sunland Park engaged with the community during a townhall meeting held the evening of April 20, 2026. The session took place at the Sunland Park Multigenerational Center, a location selected for its central position between the city’s established neighborhoods and its newest developments.
The meeting provided a platform for municipal leaders to address a wide range of local priorities, including the progress of “Park Crossing,” beginning with the progress of a new Valero Travel Center currently under construction at the intersection of McNutt Road and Pete Domenici Boulevard. This project, which broke ground in late August, represents a significant partnership with Fast Trak Fuel and is expected to strengthen the city’s commercial corridor by bringing retail spaces and a national fast-food restaurant chain to the region within the next year.
In addition to economic development, the city highlighted its commitment to technological accessibility through the Sunland Park Connect app. The City presented the app’s capabilities, which were pioneered to streamline how residents report issues and receive routine public-information notifications. The city also noted its expanded digital reach through new livestreaming capabilities on its official YouTube channel, ensuring that public meetings remain accessible to all residents regardless of their ability to attend in person.
Addressing regional concerns about geographic equity, officials emphasized that these engagement efforts are part of a broader, ongoing initiative to serve every corner of the community. This follows previous collaborative outreach, such as the townhall in Anapra led by city staff and District 5 Councilor Burciaga. By maintaining this open line of communication, the city aims to ensure that resident feedback directly guides future municipal decisions.
The event also featured specialized updates from the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA). Executive Director Juan Carlos Crosby led discussions on water and wastewater infrastructure and introduced the new Community Conversation Night, an initiative designed to provide a dedicated space for utility-related transparency. Leaders also reminded the public of the upcoming city-wide tire clean-up event scheduled for May 2, which will offer both curbside pickup and direct drop-off options to maintain the city’s beautification standards.
The City of Sunland Park remains dedicated to these interactive sessions as a means of building trust and ensuring that as the community grows, every resident has a voice in the process.
