On July 24, hundreds of local families gathered at the Sunland Park Sports Complex for a community-wide Back-to-School event designed to prepare area students for the upcoming academic year.
Organized through a joint effort between municipal leaders, local businesses, and regional non-profits, the event provided students with essential classroom items, including backpacks, notebooks, paper, and writing utensils. Beyond material supplies, the event served as a centralized resource hub, connecting parents directly with area organizations offering health screenings, educational support programs, and family guidance services. On-site barbers provided complimentary haircuts, while food vendors and interactive booths engaged visitors throughout the evening.
For many households in the Paso del Norte region, the annual return to the classroom brings significant financial strain. Providing free, direct access to basic learning tools helps alleviate those initial seasonal costs, ensuring local students can enter the classroom on day one with the materials required to succeed.
