The City of Sunland Park is moving forward with a strategic initiative to secure more than $9.4 million in infrastructure funding, focusing on long-term neighborhood stability and resident safety. During the April 28-29 meeting of the New Mexico Finance Authority (NMFA) Colonias Infrastructure Board, City leadership presented three high-priority projects designed to modernize the city’s roads, drainage, and wastewater systems.
These funding requests prioritize community-wide impacts, ranging from flood prevention to the reliability of essential household services. The proposed projects include:
Futurity Dr. Reconstruction & Drainage ($4,500,000)
This project focuses on comprehensive road rehabilitation and the installation of modern drainage systems. The goal is to eliminate standing water and flood risks in residential areas, ensuring that neighborhood transit remains safe and accessible for families and emergency responders during heavy rainfall.
South Lift Station ($4,218,019)
By upgrading this critical piece of wastewater infrastructure, the City aims to provide a more resilient utility network. These essential improvements are vital for preventing service disruptions and maintaining environmental safety standards for residents in the southern portion of the city.
Wastewater Collection System Improvements ($700,000)
These targeted enhancements strengthen the city’s collection network. This investment is a key component of the City’s transition toward a local, city-led utility department, ensuring more direct accountability and improved service delivery for every ratepayer.
By aggressively pursuing these state grants, the City is working to deliver multi-million dollar improvements that enhance the daily quality of life for residents while maintaining fiscal responsibility. These projects represent a proactive commitment to building a more resilient Sunland Park through sustainable, community-focused infrastructure.
The Colonias Infrastructure Board evaluates applications based on project readiness and the direct benefit to the community. A final determination on these awards is expected in the coming weeks.
