The Sunland Park Police Department recognizes Sergeant Armando Duran for receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Outstanding Drug Recognition Expert Award for 2026.
Sergeant Duran is the first certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) in the history of the Sunland Park Police Department. This recent honor follows his previous recognition as the 2025 New Mexico DRE of the Year. His specialized work focuses on DWI enforcement and complex impaired-driving investigations to improve roadway safety.
Within the department, Sergeant Duran balances his duties as a supervisor with active mentorship. He trains fellow officers in impaired-driving enforcement and continues to support the development of the agency’s K9 program.
