The City of Sunland Park is proud to announce a transformative expansion of services at the Sunland Park Senior Center, made possible through a strategic partnership with the South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD). This new initiative provides dedicated, door-to-door transportation for the city’s senior residents, ensuring they remain connected to the heart of our community.
The program officially reached a milestone with a successful inaugural cultural excursion to the El Paso Museum of Art (EPMA). Utilizing SCRTD’s specialized fleet, a group of Sunland Park seniors enjoyed a seamless commute to downtown El Paso for a private, guided tour of the internationally acclaimed exhibition, Frida Kahlo – Sus Fotos.
The core of this program is a reliable home-to-center connection. By providing direct transportation from a senior’s front door to the Senior Center, the city is removing the barriers of distance and navigation, ensuring that every resident can access the meals, health programs, and social activities offered at the facility.
About the Service
The program is designed to be as user-friendly and inclusive as possible, focusing on:
Direct Home-to-Center Service
Personalized pick-ups and drop-offs between residents' homes and the Sunland Park Senior Center.
Total Accessibility
Vehicles provided by SCRTD are ADA-compliant and equipped with modern lifts and ramps to accommodate passengers of all mobility levels.
Cultural Enrichment
Beyond daily center visits, the service enables special community excursions to keep seniors connected to the culture and heritage of the Borderland.
The successful excursion to the EPMA served as a vibrant demonstration of the program’s potential to enrich the lives of our residents. During the visit, Sunland Park seniors were treated to a personalized tour led by the El Paso Museum of Art staff, who provided expert insight into the collection of over 240 archived photographs of Frida Kahlo. This deep dive into themes of resilience and heritage was made possible by the seamless coordination of SCRTD and the exceptional hospitality of the museum’s educational team.
The City of Sunland Park and SCRTD are committed to making these services accessible and efficient for our residents.
