The Future of Water in Sunland Park

Local Control, Trusted Service

Mission

To deliver safe, reliable, and community-centered water and wastewater services for the residents of Sunland Park through transparent leadership, efficient infrastructure investment, and responsible local governance.

Vision

A modern, City-run utility department that ensures clean water for every household and supports Sunland Park’s long-term growth and quality of life.

Goals & Responsibilities

  • Ensure a seamless transition from joint governance to local control.

  • Rehabilitate and maintain water infrastructure, starting with the Anapra, Meadow Vista, and Tierra Madre water tanks.

  • Invest in long-term infrastructure improvements.
In 2025, the City of Sunland Park committed $1.2 million toward urgent water tank rehabilitation projects—part of our responsibility to maintain safe and reliable utility services for the community.

  • Establish clear communication with the community through a new Community Coordinator position.

  • Prioritize public health, safety, and accountability in every stage of service.

  • Secure funding, development agreements, and revenue strategies to address deferred maintenance and expand capacity.

A Stronger Utility Starts Here.

Following Doña Ana County’s decision to end the Joint Powers Agreement that formed CRRUA, the City of Sunland Park is taking bold, proactive steps to establish its own Utility Department to continue uninterrupted service and invest in long-overdue improvements.

Current Services

Until the full transition is complete, residents will continue to receive:

  • Potable water service

  • Wastewater collection and treatment

  • Customer service via CRRUA (temporarily)

  • Public notices regarding water quality and scheduled projects

The City will provide updates as these services are transitioned into the Sunland Park Utility Department.
