Every day, many city employees work together to help keep Sunland Park running smoothly. From managing city records and maintaining technology systems to providing public safety services, each department plays an important role in serving the community. This story highlights three staff members whose work helps support residents and city operations behind the scenes.
Magavi Chavez, the City Deputy Clerk, helps manage records, meetings, and administrative tasks that help ensure that important information is properly handled and available when needed. She also serves as a notary. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Magavi said “I love helping people whenever I can.” Her dedication to helping others makes her an important part of the city team.
Keeping the city’s technology running is David Madrid, the city’s IT, who manages computer systems, networks, and software for the city. His job helps employees stay connected and allows city services to operate efficiently. David enjoys the variety his work brings each day. “I’m not just sitting at a desk, I move around a lot, and its fun,” he said. He also likes working with people and helping solve technology issues when they arise.
Chief Kiri Daines oversees the Sunland Park Police Department and helps keep the community safe. Much of her work takes place behind the scenes. Chief Daines said, “Not only do I deal with day-to-day responsibilities, but it also includes preparing the budget, hiring and training employees, equipment and technology, and looking at ways to improve the department each year.” She enjoys working in a smaller department because it allows her to build strong connections with the community.
Although they work in different departments, Magavi, David, Chief Daines all share a commitment to serving Sunland Park residents. Their work, along with the efforts of many other city employees, helps keep the city organized, safe, and connected. These behind-the-scenes roles may not always be visible, but they are an important part of keeping Sunland Park running every day.
