Elena Park Becomes Sunland Park’s Monthly Gathering Space

On the third Saturday of every month, Elena Park serves as a central meeting place for Sunland Park residents through the Gateway to New Mexico Cultural Market. Organized in collaboration with District 4 Councilor Alberto Jaramillo, the recurring event brings families, local home-based vendors, and neighborhood residents together under the park canopy.

What started as a market space has grown into a familiar weekend routine. Strollers line the paved paths alongside residents browsing tables of homegrown desert plants, homemade baked goods, and handcrafted jewelry. The recurring series was designed to increase direct use of District 4 park facilities. Providing consistent weekend programming allows residents to gather in a shared public space close to home.

The market offers regional micro-businesses an affordable, low-barrier venue to sell goods without commercial retail overhead. Vendors include home bakers, desert plant propagators, and artisans selling handmade jewelry.

The market operates on the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Elena Park. Admission is free, and the event remains open to all residents and visitors.
