The Sunland Park Fire Department is currently using the International Fire Code (IFC) editon for fire code enforcement. Fire plan submittal must be submitted utilizing the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC). The Community Risk Reduction Division is responsible for providing inspection services to the Sunland Park

Existing commercial buildings and businesses have become accustomed to seeing fire personnel in the role of fire safety inspectors. Fire Prevention also conducts investigations into all fires which occur within the city. Determining the origin and cause of fire plays a very important role in preventing future incidents. Division personnel remain on call 24 hours a day to respond to fire incidents.
Business inspections are an important component of fire prevention, they educate our citizens on fire safety. Inspections are designed for occupant and firefighter safety. In the fire service, we need to continually search for better and safer ways to perform our du:es. By performing business inspections, we are mitigating the hazards that threaten lives within and around a building. Our job is to protect lives and property, and some of the simplest violations can have the biggest impact for your business. Community Risk Reduction is responsible for enforcing the state and local fire safety codes and ordinances in the City of Sunland Park. Community Risk Reduction personnel investigate the cause and origin of fires and explosions in commercial and residential properties within the City of Sunland Park. To ensure that fires and explosions of a suspicious nature are thoroughly investigated, the Sunland Park Fire Department works closely with the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sunland Park Police Department for suspected arson cases. Community outreach is a year-round priority for the Sunland Park Fire Department. We deliver life-saving educational programs to the public. Our goal is to educate our community on various safety programs to reduce the identified community risks.
We are currently using the 2021 International Fire Code which was adopted in by the City of Sunland Park.

The Certificate of Fitness program is licensing that is required by the New Mexico State Fire Marshals Office, which allows fire protection companies to conduct business on fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, hood suppression systems, etc. in the City of Sunland Park, NM and across the state. Prior to being able to do any work on a life safety system, the Fire Marshal’s Office will check the fire protection company’s Certificate of Fitness.
This is an annual requirement in accordance with NFPA 10- Portable Fire Ex:nguishers. Fire Inspector’s will verify that the fire ex:nguisher has been serviced during your Annual Fire Inspec:on.
