A delegation of Sunland Park city officials recently completed an on-site facility tour of Three Crosses Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces to review regional healthcare operations and clinical models as the city moves forward with plans to establish its own municipal urgent care facility.

The municipal delegation included Mayor Javier Perea, Mayor Pro Tempore Raul Telles, Councilor Jaramillo, City Manager Mario Juarez-Infante, Deputy City Manager Marco Grajeda, and City Clerk Karla Herrera. They were joined by Faustino Peres, Legislative Aide to State Representative Raymundo Lara. During the visit, executive leadership from Three Crosses; Chief Executive Officer Denten Park, Chief Growth & Strategy Officer Marke Copeland, Chief Operating Officer Richard Hunt, and Chief Financial Officer Bashar Naser, guided city representatives through the hospital’s clinical spaces, inpatient areas, and administrative facilities. The tour concluded with an open presentation and discussion focused on facility design, staffing structures, and operational logistics.
The City of Sunland Park has secured $4.8 million in blended funding to construct a dedicated urgent care center to expand local healthcare access. Funding sources include $2.4 million in Federal Congressional Direct Spending, $2 million from New Mexico CDPF state funds, and $400,000 in municipal matching funds.
Initial site preparation is underway on a city-acquired three-acre parcel. The visit to Three Crosses provided municipal leaders with direct insights into modern medical center infrastructure as the city evaluates potential operational models. No formal commitments, vendor selections, or operational contracts have been established.
Sunland Park targets facility construction to begin in late 2027, pending final legislative funding awards.
