Approximately 800 Sunland Park residents gathered at the Sunland Park Sports Complex on July 24 for a community Back-to-School event designed to support local students ahead of the upcoming academic year.
The collaborative effort resulted in the distribution of approximately 300 backpacks and 100 bags filled with essential school supplies to area children. In addition to material resources, four local barbers volunteered their time on-site to provide free haircuts to students preparing for their return to the classroom.
Twenty local service agencies participated in the event, distributing informational resources, additional school supplies, and treats for attending families. Representatives from the Santa Teresa High School PTA were also present to share key academic guidance and updates for parents and students preparing for the high school transition.Â
The event relied on volunteer support from community members and local organizations. Volunteers included the Santa Teresa High School Cheerleaders, staff from Representative Ray L. Lara’s office, five members of the Sunland Park City Council, senior center participants, and 20 employees representing Stack Infrastructure and Oracle.
