SUNLAND PARK, NM — In an effort to keep our desert landscapes pristine and our neighborhoods safe, the City of Sunland Park is launching a major offensive against one of our most persistent challenges: illegal tire dumping.
This Saturday, May 2, the City is making it easier than ever for residents to clear their properties of old tires by providing two convenient, free-of-charge disposal options.
The City has designed this event to be as accessible as possible:
Curb Pickup
For maximum convenience, residents can place approved tires at the curb in front of their homes for collection by City crews.
Direct Drop Off
Residents who prefer to transport their own items can bring them directly to the Sunland Park Sports Complex (4700 McNutt Rd.) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
This initiative follows a successful wave of momentum, including recent regional media coverage highlighting the City’s commitment to proactive service. From our dedicated utility crews to city leadership and local volunteers, Sunland Park is united in the goal of curbing illegal dumping.
Prep Your Tires
To keep the line moving and ensure we can recycle the materials:
-
Remove the Rims: We cannot accept tires that are still mounted.
-
Residential Only: We cannot accept tires from commercial shops or heavy industrial/semi-truck equipment.
Confirm Your Eligibility (The Map Rule)
While we often use the names Sunland Park and Santa Teresa interchangeably, this specific event is funded for residents within the City of Sunland Park municipal limits.
Check the Map: We have provided a link to the [Official Residency Map] to help you verify if your address falls within the service area.
Be Prepared: If you are using Direct Drop-Off, please have your water bill (CRRUA) and ID ready. The gate staff will use these to confirm you are within the designated cleanup zone.
