Sunland Park’s Regional Influence Highlighted at Economic Development Forum

The April 17 BIA Luncheon at the Holiday Inn West served as a significant platform for the City of Sunland Park to showcase its dual-track approach to regional growth, blending legislative vision with high-level administrative expertise.

Representing the City’s administrative arm, Deputy City Manager Marco Grajeda served as a featured panelist alongside leaders from the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) and the City of El Paso.

The event’s Regional Economic Development Panel brought together a diverse group of experts, including Davin Lopez of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance, Karina Brasgalla from the City of El Paso, and Jerry Pacheco of the Border Industrial Association, to discuss the shared future of the Borderplex.

Representing the City of Sunland Park on the panel, Deputy City Manager Marco Grajeda provided a technical perspective shaped by his extensive background in border infrastructure and his previous leadership at the New Mexico Border Authority. His insights into major regional investments were complemented by the presence of City Councilor Alberto Jaramillo, who has served the community since 2020.

Councilor Jaramillo emphasized bridging the gap between foundational education and the workforce. By advocating for career-oriented preparation at the elementary and middle school levels, he signaled the City’s commitment to transforming today’s students into tomorrow’s industry leaders.

By integrating Grajeda’s experience in securing millions for critical infrastructure with Jaramillo’s legislative focus on constituent trust and regional connectivity, the City demonstrated a unified front. This collaboration between staff and elected leadership ensures that Sunland Park remains a proactive and sophisticated partner in the ongoing economic transformation of the region.
