Sunland Park Moves into Implementation Phase for $3.7 Million in State-Funded Infrastructure and Municipal Projects

SUNLAND PARK, NM – The City of Sunland Park has successfully secured $3,730,000 in state legislative funding to launch critical infrastructure and community development projects aimed at improving long-term reliability for all residents. This achievement was made possible through the dedicated advocacy of our state legislative delegation, with special recognition of the proactive leadership demonstrated by State Representative Ray Lara, whose instrumental work in Santa Fe secured these vital resources for our community.

The allocation supports a dual-track strategy that directs critical funds to the essential infrastructure and equipment forming the backbone of city services while simultaneously making significant strides in community development through a new Municipal Complex.

Prioritizing utility stability, the city is directing $200,000 toward subterranean improvements for the South Lift Station and force main to ensure wastewater reliability in the Riverside area. These efforts are bolstered by a $200,000 investment in a specialized, multi-purpose municipal vehicle fleet to improve operational response times and a $400,000 allocation for road construction and drainage at Mt. Cristo Rey Blvd and Bronze Hill Ave to enhance safety and traffic flow.

Alongside these core upgrades, Sunland Park is celebrating a $1,420,000 appropriation for a new Municipal Complex, which will serve as a high-functioning, centralized hub for professional city services. Complementing this milestone is a $1,510,000 investment in new athletic fields at the complex, providing families with safe, high-quality spaces for recreation and youth engagement.

“Sunland Park is no longer just a pass-through; we are a vital piece of the borderland region,” said Mayor Javier Perea. “This $3.7 million investment allows us to stabilize the systems our residents rely on while building the modern civic spaces they deserve. We move beyond immediate fixes to follow a long-term blueprint that ensures our growth within this binational corridor is both orderly and sustainable. We are deeply grateful to our legislators, and specifically to Representative Lara, for championing the needs of our residents.”

This legislative success ensures that Sunland Park continues its trajectory of diligent recovery and economic momentum, positioning the city as a regional leader in the Paso del Norte corridor.
