Driving the Future: Sunland Park Hosts Regional Energy Forum

The City of Sunland Park recently hosted a critical public forum at the Sunland Park Sports Complex to discuss the future of transportation and clean energy in Southern New Mexico. The event brought together state leaders, regional agencies, and local residents to help shape the New Mexico Comprehensive Energy Transition Strategy (CETS).

As a key stop for this statewide initiative, Sunland Park was selected by the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) and NMSU’s Arrowhead Center due to its unique position as a border community. The forum provided a platform for the city to showcase its role as a strategic gateway where international trade, regional transit, and state-wide energy goals intersect.

The forum featured a robust assembly of governmental and regional partners focused on improving infrastructure and air quality for the border region. Participating agencies included:

    • The City of Las Cruces

    • New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT)

    • Public Regulation Commission (PRC)

    • South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD)

    • New Mexico Environment Department (NMED)

“The City of Sunland Park continues to lead statewide efforts to expand access to public transportation”

Utilizing the Sunland Park Sports Complex for this forum highlights the City’s commitment to using its municipal facilities for impactful civic engagement. This collaboration between state and local government reflects a broader vision of Sunland Park as a premier destination for both regional dialogue and economic development.

The insights gathered during the Sunland Park forum will be incorporated into the final CETS report, which will guide state-wide policy and infrastructure investment for years to come.

This event was organized by the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) and NMSU’s Arrowhead Center. The City of Sunland Park served as the host venue and a participating stakeholder.
