On March 4, 2026, the Sunland Park Community Library officially expanded its reach with the kickoff of Dewey’s Book Box, a new automated book locker located at the Sunland Park Sports Complex.

The event marked a significant step in the City’s efforts to make literary resources more accessible to residents outside of traditional library hours and locations. Mayor Javier Perea attended the kickoff, joining community members to celebrate this modern addition to the city’s literacy infrastructure.

During the event, several attendees became the first to utilize the technology, successfully checking out reserved books directly from the locker. Dewey’s Book Box allows library patrons to pick up holds at a convenient, central location and helps bridge the gap between the library facility and the Santa Teresa region. 

The lockers serve as a extension of the Sunland Park Community Library, ensuring that students, professionals, and families can integrate reading into their daily routines at the Sports Complex.
