City of Sunland Park Partners with Breaking Bad Habits NM for February Clean Up Day

The City of Sunland Park is working with Breaking Bad Habits NM, a statewide anti-litter initiative, to support the upcoming Sunland Park Clean Up Day, a two-day community effort focused on litter cleanup and bulk trash removal throughout the city.

Sunland Park Clean Up Day will take place on 02/21/2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 02/22/2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is designed to help improve neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces while encouraging responsible disposal and reducing illegal dumping.

Through coordination with Breaking Bad Habits NM, the City is aligning local cleanup efforts with a broader statewide message that emphasizes shared responsibility, environmental stewardship, and community pride. Breaking Bad Habits NM supports communities across New Mexico by providing outreach tools and resources that encourage long-term behavior change related to litter prevention.

Residents living within Sunland Park city limits are encouraged to participate in Clean Up Day by placing eligible bulk trash items on the curb in front of their homes for volunteer pickup. Residents may also bring bulk trash directly to the Sunland Park Sports Complex, located at 4700 McNutt Road, during event hours.

For safety and environmental reasons, certain items will not be accepted during Clean Up Day. These include lithium batteries, hot ashes, paint, oil, gasoline, and other hazardous materials. Lithium batteries must be taken to one of the designated battery drop-off locations listed on the official event flyer.

City staff and volunteers will be working throughout the event to ensure items are collected safely and efficiently. Clean Up Day is intended to provide residents with a convenient disposal option while supporting broader efforts to keep Sunland Park clean and well maintained.

Sunland Park Clean Up Day is made possible through community participation and volunteer support. The City appreciates everyone who takes part in helping maintain clean, safe, and welcoming neighborhoods.
