The City of Sunland Park is proud to have Chief Javier Guerra, an honorable U.S. Marine Veteran, as the City's Chief of Police.

Chief Guerra has an impressive background comprised of over 40 plus-years of law enforcement experience including the United States Marshals Service . During his tenure with the U.S. Marshals Service, Chief Guerra was in charge of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force’s in Los Angeles, CA and El Paso, TX., as well as completed many critical domestic and international assignments (which included; Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica). Chief Guerra is currently an Executive Board member of the New Mexico Municipal League Chief of Police Association. Chief Guerra strives in maintaining transparency and openness. He maintains positive relationships and affiliations with the community, as well as being fair and impartial. The Chief always works hard to protect our basic human and constitutional rights, protects our freedom, has a deep respect for people and their personal dignity, and is committed to ensuring that his team of police officers conduct themselves in the most lawful and professional way when protecting and serving the people of Sunland Park. Chief Guerra is well-respected by state, local and federal agencies around the State of New Mexico and continues to maintain a professional relationship with those agencies.
