VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: 

PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION (2 Volunteer Positions Open) 

The City of Sunland Park is seeking to appoint a new member to the Planning and Zoning Commission Board for a two (2) year term and is accepting applications from anyone interested in serving in this capacity.  

What is the Planning & Zoning Commission?
This board consists of seven (7) members.  Members are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.  While most members are residents of the City of Sunland Park, two of the members may be non-residents from within the city’s urbanized territory or be a non-resident business owner within the city.
What does the P&Z Commission do?
The P&Z Commission’s function is to promote municipal planning, promulgate and enforce regulations governing the subdivision land within the platting and planning jurisdiction of the city to promote health, safety, moral or general welfare for the City of Sunland Park as allowed by State law.
What is the term of office?
The majority of members will serve a one-year term and the rest will be appointed for a two-year term.
How often will the P&Z Commission meet?
The P&Z Commission will meet at least once a month in accordance to the New Mexico Open Meetings Act and report to the City Council on a monthly basis.
Who can apply? 
Candidates applying to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission must either be Sunland Park residents or have a business within the city boundaries to be considered for appointment.

LODGER'S TAX ADVISORY BOARD (1 Volunteer Position Available) 
The City of Sunland Park is recruiting interested individuals to fill one position available for the Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board.

BACKGROUND.  The purpose of the law was to impose a tax which will be paid by persons using commercial lodging accommodations in the City of Sunland Park, NM.  The tax will provide revenues for the purpose of advertising, publicizing and promoting tourist-related facilities, attractions, transportation systems, etc.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • The Advisory Board shall advise the mayor and the governing body related to expenditure of funds generated by the Lodger’s Tax for advertising, publicizing, and promoting tourist-related attractions, facilities and events in the municipality.
  • The five (5) member Advisory board shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • The volunteer must be an owner or operator of and industry located within the municipality that primarily provides services or products to tourists.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
