 CITY PLANNER  Job Description

Starting Pay:  $16.82-$21.58/hr  DOE.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Performs a variety of administrative duties related to planning and land development that will impact the city border development.  Responsible for the long- and short-term planning, including GSI, project management and coordination, liaison with developers, builders and engineers under direction, perform professional work to prepare and recommend planning standards, and administer assigned city and urban planning and development, or zoning programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent to an accredited bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, planning, urban development, architecture, engineering or related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in urban, regional or community planning, or building or zoning code enforcement, including plan review, inspection or other land development processing. 

 LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES:

  • New Mexico Driver’s License or equivalent issued by another state.
  • Valid current US Passport.

PURCHASING AGENT  Job Description 

Starting Pay:  $15.00-$20.00/hr  DOE.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Position plans, coordinates and manages the procurement of supplies, services and materials for the City of Sunland Park in compliance with state and local law; develops and manages procurement policies, specifications, and contracts; provides advice and counsel to management and staff and assist department in the administration of existing contracts.

Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours and responding to customer issues. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
  2. Six (6) years public (government) sector purchasing experience.  A combination of education, training and experience in public (government) sector purchasing may be applied in accordance with City of Sunland Park policies and procedures. 

Licenses and Certifications:

  1. Vvalid driver’s license may be required or preferred. If applicable, position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Sunland Park Personnel Policy.
  2. Registration as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) is preferred; (if not certified, must acquire within 6 months of hire)
  3. Additional technical certification is desirable.

POLICE OFFICER  Job Description

Starting Pay:  $15.00-$17.86/hr  DOE.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  
This is an entry level in which employees are trained in general duty police work to protect life and property through the enforcement of laws. Must take oath of office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) test.
  1. Law Enforcement Academy Certified or if certified out of state must be certifiable thru NMLEA within one year of hire.
  1. Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

 License and Certification:

Must possess a current valid driver license

OTHER:

  1. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation including fingerprints and arrest record check and polygraph test. Record must be clear of felony conviction.
  2. Must submit to and successfully complete, psychological screening and evaluation.
  3. Must pass a medical examination.

COURT CLERK     Job Description              
Starting Pay:  $10.00/hr
(1 PT position available)

Will assists public with questions and signing in for court hearing; answer phones and screen callers; enters citation into system; prepares court packets; prepares court docket; organizes and prepares case files prior to court hearings; creates payment plans according to court dispositions and judgments; attends court proceedings; filing Alphabetically; take payments as needed; close cases and perform other duties as assigned by Court Administrator or Municipal Judge.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Six (6) months experience in skilled office clerical tasks
  3. Knowledge of the court system and legal terminology
  4. Bilingual in English and Spanish
  5. Requires a typing rate of 45 words per minute
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  7. Ability to greet the general public with a helpful and positive attitude

PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION (1 Volunteer Position Available) 

The City of Sunland Park is recruiting interested individuals to fill a vacant position on the board of the Planning & Zoning Commission. Take this opportunity to volunteer your time in civic service for the people of Sunland Park and help make a difference in the development of this city.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Municipal planning, working on comprehensive plans for responsible growth & community development, making recommendations to the City Council on all requests for zoning, annexations, subdivisions and related land-use issues.
  • P&Z Commissioners must be present no less than seventy-five percent (75%) of all regularly scheduled meetings, not including workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Must be a legal resident of the City of Sunland Park.
  • Land-use experience preferred, but not required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

LODGER'S TAX ADVISORY BOARD 
(1 Volunteer Position Available) 

The City of Sunland Park is recruiting interested individuals to fill one position available for the Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board.

BACKGROUND.  The purpose of the law was to impose a tax which will be paid by persons using commercial lodging accommodations in the City of Sunland Park, NM.  The tax will provide revenues for the purpose of advertising, publicizing and promoting tourist-related facilities, attractions, transportation systems, etc.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • The Advisory Board shall advise the mayor and the governing body related to expenditure of funds generated by the Lodger’s Tax for advertising, publicizing, and promoting tourist-related attractions, facilities and events in the municipality.
  • The five (5) member Advisory board shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • The volunteer must be an owner or operator of and industry located within the municipality that primarily provides services or products to tourists.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
